Agenda

Councils are uniquely situated to take measures against climate change. By facilitating collaboration, local government can lead the way on realising Net Zero. However, capturing the right opportunities while following central government guidance can prove to be a challenge.

Held on the 23 February 2023, our esteemed panel explored the cooperative possibilities within local government’s remit including:

  • how climate response fits into the policies of current and future administrations.
  • the best avenues to facilitate relationships with public and private sector organisations to tackle climate change.
  • how we can ensure the climate agenda remains at the top of the priority list; and the role sustainable growth can play in resolving the cost-of-living crisis.

The session was chaired by Martin George, deputy editor, LGC and our panel of speakers were:

  • Diane Neville, Principal Planning Officer,  Lancaster City Council
  • Mickey Green, Managing Director, Somerset Waste Partnership
  • Christopher Hammond, Network Membership Director, UK100
  • Chris Skidmore,  Former MP, Kingswood and chair, Mission Zero, Independent Review of Net Zero
