Net Zero Virtual Conference

10-11 October 2023 | Online

Join our annual two half day (AM) conference to discuss adaptation of net zero and mitigation of climate change. Expert speakers will come together online to debate strategic challenges and opportunities. Sessions will consider funding challenges, policy implementation, collaboration with public and private sector organisations, and the need for climate resilience. Attendance is available at a discounted rate for public sector colleagues.

Adaptation and mitigation to sustain our future

LGC Net Zero is our headline virtual conference which is now in its fourth year. Previous events have seen hundreds of like-minded professionals gather together in our virtual conference room, networking with each other and hearing expert speakers talk of the challenges for councils on an operational and strategic level with regards to climate and achieving Net Zero.

The strapline of this year's event is 'collaboration and mitigation to sustain our future'. This is split into two main themes across the two-half days of content; Adaptation, and Mitigation.

Tuesday 10 October - Adaptation

Following opening remarks from the Local Government Chronicle editorial team, hear from leading figures in the sector addressing the cost of living crisis and the consequences of economic turmoil for achieving climate goals. Strategic sessions on balancing climate approaches and funding opportunities will go hand-in-hand with more operational and hands-on topics like renewable energy, greener transport methods and the change in thought required at all levels of management.

Wednesday's sessions will also tackle housing, retrofit, and climate resilience.

Wednesday 11 October - Mitigation

On its own climate-conscious decision making is not enough to tackle global warming. Thursday's sessions will focus on mitigation, and embedding sustainability into our current lives. The audience will look at sticks and carrots: how do we incentivise sustainability in business? Linking aspirations to reality also requires an understanding of the skills gap and the importance of localised partnerships including with other public services.

Thursday will also offer the opportunity for delegates to interact with each other and share experiences in virtual roundtable discussions based on the type of council they are part of; cities, towns, and rural communities.

The agenda for 2023 will be confirmed soon.
